Open Space Officer

About the Role

Working closely with the Open Space Lead, the Open Space Officer delivers high-quality maintenance and operational outcomes across Council’s open spaces. 

The role is responsible for supervising contractors across mowing and landscaping services, supporting the maintenance of parks, playgrounds, and other public infrastructure, and assisting in the delivery of open space projects. With a strong customer focus, the position also manages community enquiries and helps ensure open spaces are safe, well-presented, and meet community expectations.

About You

You are a proactive and collaborative professional with experience in parks, open space, recreation, and a proven ability to supervise contractors and deliver high-quality outcomes. You bring strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear documentation and engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. You are confident using Microsoft Office (including Excel) and have a working knowledge of GIS tools such as ArcGIS.

You are solutions-focused, with a keen eye for identifying improvement opportunities and increasing service delivery. 

An Operational Playground Inspection (Level 2) certification, or the willingness to obtain it and a qualification in horticulture or a related discipline, will be highly regarded.
